Abstract

Electricity consumption has an important role in the economy because electricity is basic sector to achieve development goals in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the causal relationship and long-term relationship between economic growth, industrial growth, population growth, consumption expenditure, and foreign investment on electricity consumption in Indonesia in 1971-2019. The data used is secondary data in the form of time series data. The dependent variable of this research is electricity consumption. The independent variables are economic growth, industrial growth, population growth, consumption expenditure, and foreign investment. The method used in this research is the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). The results show that there is a one-way causality between electricity consumption and industrial growth, population growth and foreign investment. This study also shows that in the long term economic growth, industrial growth, population growth, consumption expenditure and foreign investment have an influence on electricity consumption in Indonesia.
